MSEC CLP (Middlesbrough South & East Cleveland Constituency Labour Party) is the local Labour Party in the parliamentary constituency that stretches from the edge of the North York Moors, across the old mining villages, small towns, and beautiful beaches of East Cleveland to the southern part of the once industrial giant of Middlesbrough that manufactured and sold steel to the world.

Our members come from all walks of life and across all ages. We are campaigning to see a Labour MP representing MSEC in parliament again and a Labour government at the next general election.

The CLP holds a formal monthly meeting to which all members are invited to attend and contribute.

There is a smaller group of elected officers who manage the day to day running of the CLP, ensure that our finances are in good order and that we work to the standards and rules of the Labour Party. Our current chair is Paul McGrath who has a background as a trade unionist and has been a party member for over 20 years.

We have an active campaign group led by our Vice Chair Campaigns, Lisa Robson and regular canvassing sessions across the constituency where we talk to voters formally at their doorstep or informally at street stalls.

Our greatest asset is our members and their commitment to the Labour Party and the vision of a fairer society. Their contribution ranges from canvassing to office functions like sorting letters to voters, entering voter data at home, or managing our social media, to organising fundraising events and donating raffle prizes.

If you would like to join us in the Labour Party you can find out about that here:

The CLP oversees the whole constituency, but we also have smaller groups called branches who meet locally and campaign on more local issues. There are branches in Loftus (Loftus and Lockwood), Saltburn, Brotton & Skelton, Guisborough and Middlesbrough South.

Each branch has a number of electoral wards in its area and will select candidates to stand in local council elections; there are two councils in our area Redcar & Cleveland BC and Middlesbrough, so we work closely with Redcar CLP and Middlesbrough CLP to get Labour councillors elected or get a Labour Mayor for Middlesbrough.

We also work with CLPs across Tees Valley especially in the run up to elections for the Tees Valley Mayor or the Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner.
